Description

This is a popular Dual record player dating from the mid 80s that has been re-housed in a new purpose built plinth, made from solid wood with a varnished wood veneer. As with all my projects the wood used is all recycled or re-purposed so no more trees suffered, and good wood should never be wasted. This plinth replaces the plastic and chipboard plinth that the turntable came supplied with, and offers a great sonic improvement over the flimsy original. This was a great deck very popular with hi-fi enthusiasts back in the 80’s, with a great arm and sub-chassis, and with the new plinth it looks and sounds even better. The turntable has been fully restored, belts checked or replaced, motor serviced and everything lubricated. Everything works as well as it ever did, but obviously the sub- chassis is still over 30 years old so there are a couple of issues that should be noted: the dust cover is generally in good condition, but there are a couple of small pieces missing from the back near the hinges – please see the photos. The damage is minor and not really noticeable in normal use, and it doesn’t affect the operation of the lid at all. Also parts of the numbered scale around the tracking force knob had worn off. I have replaced them and again it doesn’t affect the use of the knob at all.
It is currently fitted an Ortofon OM series cartridge that was designed for this type of low mass arm, but this one has a stylus from an unknown third party company. It has been fully tested and it works very well, but if you prefer I can fit a brand new Audio Technica 3600L, one of my favourite cartridges, just select it in the options.
Given their age and delicate nature I include a 3 month back to base warranty with all my turntables, if you have any issues within the first 3 months that cannot be sorted via email then simply send the turntable back and I will repair it for free and pay the return postage. I am also happy for customers to collect the turntable in person, if they fancy a trip into mid Wales, this is by far the safest way to receive the turntable avoiding all the rigours of being sent through the postal system. However this is not an option that can be included with Etsy so if you decide to collect in person I will refund the postage costs.
One final point for those younger customers who may not be entirely familiar with vintage HiFi equipment; this is a separate turntable and will need to be used with a separate amplifier and speakers that need to be purchased separately. Separate systems like this generally had much better sound reproduction than cheaper integrated systems where the different electrical components interfered with each other.
All in all this is a great turntable for anyone re-discovering vinyl, it was a great turntable back in the day and it’s even better now.
